Homecoming Week!

This week is DSU's Homecoming week.  It started out with the Trunk or Treat at the alumni house that Shayne took David to.  Everyone else was super busy and David said it was pretty dumb.  So we didn't miss out there.  But then on Wednesday we had the groundbreaking ceremony for the new DSU Swimming Pool!  It was awesome.  Apparently the Ipson Family (Grandpa) donated over 2 million to the project.  Super awesome of them.  We had about 7 speakers and then Biff Williams, DSU President, got up and made an announcement that the Mayor is changing the name of 300 S. to Trailblazer BLVD.  So the new Swimming Pool will be on the corner of Trailblazer BLVD and University AVE.  Pretty Cool but the sign that they made up for the occasion said 300 E.  instead of 300 S.  It was pretty funny.
This week Ben decided to try out for the 8th grade basketball team.  He isn't very excited but he is gald that he can play with his friends.  Our good friend Ryan Eaves is the Varsity Coach at PVHS and was helping out Coach Jarrett Shaw the JV basketball coach who is coaching the 8th grade team too.  Jarrett is the little brother to Todd Shaw, a good friend of mine and one of the PVHS Football coaches.
Ben wasn't very happy that I took picture's of him while he was on the Skin's team because you could see how skinny he is.  With growing and loosing weight he's gotten too thin. We are going to start him on the same protein shakes that Tyler is on.  Hopefully that will help.  At first Ben didn't want to plat basketball at all because it had been a year and he thought everyone would be better than him.  Well, they aren't!  He was sinking 3's all over the place.  He was by far the best one ob the court that day.  This was only half of the kids because the other half still had one more game of football season.  But Ben is a great basketball player.
They practice at Nets On Fire.  It's in the Green Valley Resort and Spa.  It's where the indoor tennis courts used to be.  One of the owners used to play in the MBA and has connections to some teams that were throwing away their old courts so he bought them and brought them here.  They are super nice.  They have a great work mantra.  They want the boys to become better all around people while playing basketball.  I think that they will be able to combat the Beckstrand's natural need to dominate and have bad sportsmanship that flows in his blood.  We'll see.  I have noticed that is gets less with each generation.  Ashley and Jaden are great sports.  Ben knows that as soon as that side comes out then he is out.  Out of the game.  He either takes himself out or I will.  So, hopefully Nets On Fire and his awesome coaches will help him love to play the game and not need to win.  Coach Shaw says that at this age of the game they don't even care about winning, it's about learning the fundamentals.  YEAH!  Ben also had to wrap his fingers because he ripped them while working out at the GRIP!

It will be fun to watch Ben grow and see what he ends up doing.  Right now he still has rugby clinics every Saturday too.
