DSU RUGBY!

Remember last week at the Homecoming parade?  Well every year we see the Men's Rugby team go through and they toss the ball out to the crowd and have the kids throw it back.  This year they had a WOMENS Rugby team in the parade!  I couldn't believe it!  I instantly called Shayne and told her.  On Monday we got a hold of our friend Cole Challet, who is on the men's team and asked him about it.  He said that they practice Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm and that Shayne should just go over there and talk to the girls.  He said that they are always looking for new players.  So on Tuesday Shayne had institute that gets over right at 7 so she went over there to talk to someone and stayed for a 2 hour practice!  She is in LOVE!  They had a game on SATURDAY!  We were all stoked until we found out that it was at 11:00.  And for us to see Joel cross the finish line at the marathon he'd have to have a new PR.  Well, that wasn't going to happen this year because he had gotten really sick about a month ago that lasted a good 3 weeks and hadn't been able to train properly.  So I told him that I loved him but this year Shayne was more important.  Shayne was struggling with school, work, guys, missing OZ and life in general and this rugby team was one of God's tender mercies.  She needed it so badly right now and I wasn't about to miss it.  By the time the game had started, only John and Charles had finished the marathon.  Brian and Joel were walking.
This first picture is pre-game warm ups of their scrum with the coaches.  Shayne is playing Lock position.  It's the same position Charles played in college so he was super happy to come watch her and give her some tips.
Pre-game prayer and then they were ready to kick some SUU butt!

Shayne is #3.  This second picture is of her tackling.  She's really good at it!

Warrior face!

Half time.

My favorite picture!

They won 20-15.  Oh man it was awesome!!!  The coach left her in for all but the last minute.  She started training 4 days earlier and now has a starting position on the University Rugby Team!  She's home.
